New trail: Lost Souls of the City

Relive the forgotten stories from the City of London: a cryptic trail launching Tue 13 May.

HiddenCity trails are experiences where cryptic clues, sent by text to your phone, guide you on a journey across the city. Attempt a new challenge where you’ll relive forgotten stories from the City of London. It’s 2-3-hour experience designed for 2-4 people per team. Create your team.

Your challenge

Your challenge is to uncover stories from the lost souls of the City of London. To assist you in your quest cryptic clues will be delivered to your phone, leading you on a journey through the City’s past. From a sandy death to the art of selling time you’ll uncover tales of sacrifice, cut-throat commerce, crime, love and war.

Champagne reception for the crafty and creative

For four weeks from the launch of the trail, the fastest team each week to reach the final location will be invited to an exclusive after-hours champagne reception, and viewing of rare works at the Guildhall London. Works include Shakespeare’s First Folio and the Nuremberg Chronicles. Each competition week concludes at midnight on Saturday. The champagne presentation evening will be held on a weekday evening in week commencing 23 June.

Want to take part leisurely? Fear not, tweet an imaginative picture of a lost soul, mentioning your team name and @inthehiddencity. We’ll pick a winner based on the picture being striking and imaginative… and you’ll need to complete the trail.

Practical info

The trail is available to play from Tuesday 13 May.
Once you’ve signed up, start within 28 days on any day except Sunday.
Start as early as 11am and as late as 2pm, then expect a 2-3 hour experience. Expect to walk 2 miles.
The start location is Smiths of Smithfield, 67-77 Charterhouse St London EC1M 6HJ. Nearest tube: Farringdon
Food is available at the start, a break (approximately 90 minutes into the trail) and the final location.
The trail and clues are designed for adults; children can take part if supervised (use discretion, some clues contain adult themes).

How to win

The time taken is the time including any penalties.
The team captain is the competition entrant.
If you enter more than once, your first attempt is your competition entry.
Visit every location.
Asking for help for strangers is fine… but not from other participants.
Winners will be notified of the prize event date by 14 June.
